Texas Update for Wednesday

June 17, 2009

The latest report just in from the Mission team…
Pastor Steve:

We started our day a little apprehensive, not knowing how long we could last in the sun.   Today our site construction supervisor arrived from Oklahoma.  Gerald is his name and he has done work on the La Villa church and on another house here prior [...]

Texas Update!

June 15, 2009

When I hear from Andy I will post news on my blog:
Pastor Steve,

Well we finally arrived in Mc Allen Texas at about 1:30 and got to our hotel about 2:30.  Dina (from Merge Ministries) and her father came to the airport and gave us a ride to the Super 8 in Weslaco.  We are [...]

Environment

June 9, 2009

God is a God of beauty.  God is creative and we see that in creation.  We have some creative people at Zion who can enhance our church campus with landscaping.  It compliments the architect and designers who planned the building.  The outer environment, when possible, should make a statement about what we believe about God [...]

How To Know What Time it Is…

June 1, 2009

The tradition of our church (like many others) is to follow a different calendar than the world.  Yesterday we celebrated “Pentecost”, the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Our Sundays beat to the rhythm of a different cycle – a cycle that follows the life of Jesus. And during the longest season, Ordinary Tine (Kingdomtide) we [...]

This Lunch is Your Lunch

May 29, 2009

CHORUS
This lunch is your lunch, this lunch from God’s bunch

This lunch was made for you by me.
As I was shopping the aisles of Wal-Mart
I saw many goodies filling up my shopping cart
I saw below me future lunches made with love
This lunch was [...]

May 27, 2009

Today the office staff will celebrate Andy Hopp’s birthday over lunch.  We do this whenever any of us has a birthday.  Sometimes we go out to a local eatery; sometimes we have a potluck; and sometimes we order lunch brought in.  Andy requested “Chinese” delivered.  So that is what we will do – have some [...]

Seder Meal

April 9, 2009

We had a wonderful time connecting with a tradition among Jewish people as we experienced a Seder meal in our church Fellowship Hall.
Jane Davis did a superior job organizing and cooking the meal.  Great volunteers added to a memorable night!
Andy Hopp’s family provided the leadership and we made it through singing the long “Dayenu.”
Did [...]

Parade or Passion?

April 5, 2009

Today I have made the services move from the opening song of “Hosanna” to the Passion of Christ.  Why?  In my experience I have noticed that “the crowd” of Sunday church goers skips Good Friday.  If people come on both Palm Sunday and Easter and do not attend any other Holy Week services they short [...]

Steve & Kris Host and Chef

March 2, 2009

Steve_Kris_Team, originally uploaded by pastor_steve_p.
We had a lot of fun feeding 30 people a seven course dinner served from 6:00 until 10:00 PM last Saturday at Zion. These two amazing people, Steve and Kris, out did themselves by arranging the evening. Kris put in a gazillion hours prepping for the event.  She calls [...]
