We had a lot of fun feeding 30 people a seven course dinner served from 6:00 until 10:00 PM last Saturday at Zion. These two amazing people, Steve and Kris, out did themselves by arranging the evening. Kris put in a gazillion hours prepping for the event. She calls [...]

March 2, 2009Good Eatin’
February 25, 2009Last night Kathy made “abelskiver” pancakes in the pan I saved from my mother’s kitchen. We eat these on every FAT Tuesday like starving waifs who have just found heaven on a fork. They are tasty, indeed. Just one rich and fattening thing to enjoy because we don’t like to walk in Mardi Gras Parades [...]

Oh, those 50’s…
January 9, 2009I received the scanned photo below from a faithful blog reader – a menu from Woolworth department store. Man, did that send me back like a spin in the Time Machine. Remember those days? Me and my friends were each given a dollar by our parents and sent off to play. And we could get [...]
Poem: Racine Kringle
January 2, 2009
kringle, originally uploaded by pastor_steve_p.
There is a certain pastry
That is above all others
It has a wondrous taste
The mother of all mothers.
It really tastes so good
A danish filled with love
No doughnut can compete
With filling from above.
What is this treat you ask?
That stands alone and single
Why it is to for die for -
Of Course its Racine Kringle!
Go Slow
December 13, 2008“Have you heard the joke about the turtle and the snail?” deadpans Patrick Martins, 28, president of Slow Food’s U.S. operations, as he sips his espresso in a cafe in Bra. “In the middle of the forest, a turtle and a snail have a gruesome head-on collision. The snail is rushed to the emergency room, [...]
Shopping List
November 25, 2008She gave me the list. This happens when we both have very bust schedules before Thanksgiving. And this year we have the whole family GANG coming to dinner. We are happy for this but the stress of getting everything ready for the meal that will last just 20 minutes is tops.
So I went to the grocery [...]
Best Sunday Brunch…
November 23, 2008Who do you think has the best Sunday Brunch? When I am feeling rich I go here.
Or where do you go after church if not home for a meal?
COMMENTS - everyone would appreciate.
Sweater Weather
October 2, 2008Man, it got colder! Time to put my short sleeve shirts away and take out the sweaters. That’s how we measure time up here on the Great Lakes. It is a good time and coffee tastes better but also the craving for donuts resumes! Speaking of donuts…
Who makes the best donuts in town? Which bakery, [...]
Don’t Tell My Wife but…
September 21, 2008I am eating Liver and Onions for lunch today. Kathy is with five other women from church. They are returning from the Covenant’s Women’s Retreat in Lake Geneva. Because she is gone I can cook what she won’t eat. I grew up with this dish – it was cheap protein and, when cooked right – [...]
