Praying For Obama

I thought I would weigh in on the Rick Warren buzz about his being selected to pray for Obama at the inauguration.

One word – GREAT!  If Obama invites a progressive Southern Baptist to ask God to bless him then there is a God in heaven.  I think Warren is starting to fill in the place left by Billy Graham as sort of a “national pastor.”  And he is an evangelical as well.  And he is with his Purpose Driven brand being used by God to transform and create kingdom culture.

Warren is, like me, too progressive for the fundamentalists and too conservative for the liberals. And like Warren I do not share the same views Obama has on gay marriage or abortion.  But being true to Obama’s spirit he made room at the table of discourse to include an evangelical voice.  Cheers!  Thank God he didn’t ask his former pastor, Rev Jeremiah Wright to say a prayer.  Wright might turn his prayer into a rant against America.  But we will never know.

My concern is this: The GLBT cause wants everyone to have “tolerance” for their concerns.  They want to be accepted.  But when Rick Warren, an evangelical, is brought to the table they have no tolerance for that. No acceptance. Hypocrits! I am sure there are some in GLBT culture who wish the aggresive, obnoxious, rude cries of their ilk would go away.    Live and let live.

God bless Rick Warren.  He is a bridge and when you are a bridge you get stepped on from both sides.
