“Faith goes up the stairs that love built and looks out the window which hope has opened.” – Charles Spurgeon. (can you pcture it?)

“Reader! Had you in your mind such stores as silent thought can bring, O gentle Reader! You would find a tale in everything.” – Wordsworth (my thoughts as I blog)

“It is a bad world, Donatus, an incredibly bad world.  But I have discovered in the midst of it a quiet and good people who have learned the great secret of life.  Thay have found a joy and a wisdom which is a thousand times better than any of the pleasures of our sinful life.  They are despised and persecuted, but they care not.  They have overcome the world.  These people, Donatus, are Christians… and I am one of them.” – St. Cyprian, 200-258 A.D. (truth is never old)

“Oddly, it is not real cooks who insist that the finest ingredients are necessary to produce a delicious something… Real cooks take stale bread and aging onions and make you happy.” – Susan Wiegand, Cooking as Courtship(reminds me of my mother’s ability!)

I was particularly taken with the first quote. Not being familiar with the name Charles Spurgeon, I googled and discovered that he was a British Reformed Baptist preacher. (1834-1892) In addition to his biography were numerous additional quotes. Below are five I especially like . . .

Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil, and let us see what we are made of.

It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.

No one is so miserable as the poor person who maintains the appearance of wealth.

Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us.

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.

I enjoyed the Wordsworth quote. Everyone has a story; real author knows how to draw that story out and then put it down so others may experience it . Along that same line, many times a person is overlooked because of their outward appearance, but there is a story there to be told.
