Fasting

Every Friday in Lent I am fasting from all forms of MEDIA.  No computer, TV, Movies, Radio, Magazines, Newspapers etc.  So I won’t be reading emails or blogging.  I may pre-post something on Thursday and it will be automatically published on Friday.  Instead I will be reading the Bible and other spiritual reading.  What are you fasting from?

All are invited into a deeper commitment to Christ through this Lenten season. I invite you to consider how you might mark this time with intentional discipleship. You might want to participate in a fast from particular luxuries, material consumerism or various forms of entertainment, and take each opportunity to refrain as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and a call to prayer. You might want to add a spiritual discipline such as morning or evening Bible reading, daily prayer for church/community/world, or actions of service and compassion. Please prayerfully consider your call for this season and post your intention and commitment by adding a comment.

I think yours is an excellent commitment so I’m going to follow your lead – no computer (ouch!) TV, radio, movies, etc. I make one exception however. I have several books of a Christian nature that have been begging my attention (Yancy, C.S. Lewis, Rick Warren) so I’ll spend Fridays with them. As for emails, anything I regularly send on Fridays will go out Thursdays instead.

Considering the Ash Wednesday service this evening, it looks pretty doubtful, doesn’t it. I’ll check back here throughout the day for your decision. Remember though, last time worshipping at Zion looked this doubtful, we got a weather reprieve mid-afternoon so . . . maybe

Tonight’s Ash Wednesday service will be on hold until we see what the weather will look like this afternoon. If cancelled should we change it to Thursday?

    SJP,
It would be nice to think that if tonight’s service is cancelled, we’d still have it to look forward to tomorrow. A consideration though, attendance could be pretty dismal.
