Beautiful colored leaves caressed our Door County retreat when we got there. The temperatures went from warm to chilly the first part of this week. Lots of folks still walking the shopping lines of stores in the Door. But in our campground just a couple of seasonal people closing up like us. The campfire last night was special as we and one other camper had the smell of wood smoke lofting into the October sky. We had never “camped out” in October before. It was good.
We listened to Wisconsin Public Radio and the talk was all Crandon and the tragedy of 6 dead from Tyler Peterson. I admired the composure and wisdom of the local pastor who was interviewed and had a good down to earth response for the general public. No preaching just empathizing with the families in town. A good witness for incarnation. I believe we need to help children learn to resolve conflict without violence. Life is not a video game.
Today we woke up to rain and wind and cold. Kathy filled up bags from the pantry which would not last the winter freeze. I shut off the gas, water and electric. On the way out we picked up some Honey Crisp apples from the orchard next to us.
Tomorrow we head West toward the Twin Cities. You might hear from St. Paul in your church on Sunday – we will be there!

Hey, you´re going to Minnesota? To watch the
Gophers lose? Or the Vikings? Or, to see your lovely daughter? Steve, Jo Ann, Cathy and I are in Cusco, Peru! Tomorrow we go to Machu Picchu! Should be great. Had an apple tort today, don´t think they were honey crisps though. Greetings to Kathy. with infinite hope, Jim
